Seedstock Eligibility

  • Only seed potatoes approved by ACIA and meeting certification eligibility requirements may be entered into the Arizona Potato Seed Certification Program.
  • Seed sources shall maintain varietal identity and traceability throughout certification.

Greenhouse Production

  • Two official inspections are conducted: early growth and prior to vine kill.
  • Greenhouse lots are evaluated for variety identity, off-types, diseases, and general crop condition.
  • Leaf samples are collected before vine kill for laboratory testing.

Field Production

  • Two official inspections are conducted: early vegetative growth and prior to vine kill and harvest.
  • Field inspections evaluate variety identity, off-type plants, diseases, volunteer potatoes, and general field condition.
  • PVY leaf samples are collected during the final inspection.

Isolation and Land Requirements

  • Fields must meet ACIA requirements for land history, crop rotation, volunteer potato control, isolation, and field eligibility.

Field Standards

  • Field standards address off-types, mosaic, leaf roll, blackleg, ring rot, and other diseases within certification tolerances.
  • Disease tolerance tables are maintained in the official ACIA Potato Seed Certification Standards.

Laboratory Testing

  • Greenhouse testing includes PVX, PVS, PVA, PVY, PLRV, and stem testing for BBR and Pectobacterium.
  • Field testing includes PVY testing.
